This exquisite, quaint archaeological site makes a very successful tour, that lasts 3 hours, the lenght of a morning (or an afternoon).
The guests will meet the local guide by the ticket office of Herculaneum.
Once there, tickets will be purchased by the guests, toilet stop before going in.
The walk down, which is the start, although fairly long will allow to see the ancient city from above with one glance.
Then visitors go down exploring the right angle crossed streets, with the sewers, the development of the house that in Herculaneum is more evident, the lacked space, so they started building in height.
Some of the public baths will be visited with their fantastic decoration, the shops, the gymnasium, and accent will go on how Herculaneum was buried, that makes it altogether a different site from Pompeii, and has allowed the preservation of the skeletons too.
The site has also been preserved better than Pompeii, and incredible traces of chared timber pieces will be shown.
Then at the end of the visit the guide will give free time to walk back up, to have a drink or to buy a guide-book.
It will be possible to walk as far as the spot where the car (or the minivan) is parked.
SUGGESTIONS:
Take water, wear comfortable shoes, take camera & sun cream. In low season warmer clothing may be required.
